Just down the road from Rascals HQ is Core Youth Services. It’s an independent community-based youth service providing non-formal education and individual and group support. They provide range of indoor and outdoor activities to support young people from Inchicore in developing their full potential.
Fixing and making bikes is a hugely popular activity and lots of local kids hone their skills in a custom-made bike workshop in the CYS premises at Inchicore.

On August 24th they’re bringing eight young people, who work on bikes in the bike workshop, to Morocco. The plan is to build bikes with Moroccan street kids in a remote village, teaching them how to build, maintain and repair.

Thomas from Core Youth Services has this to say: “Our young people come from a community historically blighted by drugs and crime that’s struggling to rebuild itself, a community no stranger to poverty. But the group been working hard over the years on bikes in the workshop and now they’re ready for this challenge.”

The purpose of the trip to Morocco is straightforward: “They’ll partner up with a street kid and install a bike workshop,” explains Thomas. “They’ll build a bike from scratch with the Moroccan kids. We will leave behind the bikes and tools, so that the children can also become bike mechanics and possibly make an income. We believe at Core it’s vital for us to teach our young people the importance of being charitable and to do things for others without expecting something in return.”
