Food, Glorious Food, at the Happy Days Festival

The second ever Happy Days Beer and Food Festival is happening the May bank holiday weekend at Rascals HQ Inchicore. You can pick up your tickets here but hurry because they’re selling fast! Read on to discover more about the fabulous fare on offer. A word of warning: you will need to arrive at the festival hungry. Vert hungry.

First up, we’re going to introduce you to El Milagro. This is an authentic Mexican taquería, combining recipes from family and friends of a man named Julian Trejo Pascual. He’s a Mexican who’s been over these parts for many years, exploring the idea of bringing real, genuine Mexican recipes to foodies all over Ireland. We’re talking homemade tacos, pan dulce pastries and much besides. We cannot wait to get stuck into his 100% authentic, spicy, exotic and mouth-watering menu. Next up, leave some room for a burger!

What’s better than a sumptuous cheeseburger? Very little, if anything. Beatbox is an old skool hip-hop themed food truck. Seriously, what’s not to love? They describe themselves as ‘street food kings’ and it’s hard to disagree. There’s more than just gorgeous burgers: they can do garlic cheese fries, shredded chicken, wings, wraps… this menu is absolutely perfect for a beer and food festival. We’ll be getting stuck in with aplomb and we’re sure you will too. However, after all this delicious grub you might want to relax with a coffee and a sweet treat, right? Let’s introduce our next food truck:

You have to make sure you sample some delights from Aventura Cafe. Venezuelan couple Mercedes Olivares and Orlando Contreras, together with Brazilian partner and chef Guilherme, are the crew behind this highly-regarded coffee, snacks and pastries food truck, normally to be found in Portmarnock. Their beans are South American by origin and they only use sustainable Irish roasteries. You’ll have to try some of their cakes and freshly-baked pastries, but while we’re on the subject of sweet treats… you’d better leave room for dessert:

What do you mean you’ve never had an ice-cream sandwich? Definitely add a Cold Boi ice-cream sambo to your list of must-eats at our Happy Days festival. What kind of sandwiches, we hear you ask? Well, their list of hits include a banana ice cream with a dulce swirl with caramelized white choc biscuits, as well as a Vietnamese coffee ice cream with caramelized pecans and white chocolate/browned butter biscuits. Hmmmmmm… butter biscuits. Lastly, but by no means least, we’ll also be slinging out pizzas from the oven at Rascals HQ:

Our head chef Patch, who has been firing up that oven since the day we opened, takes a huge amount of pride in the Rascals menu and in every single pizza that our customers enjoy. He’s constantly trying out new recipes and combinations, looking at different types of meats and toppings combinations, exploring veggie and vegan options, and generally keeping an eye on what’s new and different. (Personally speaking, I would like to see the return of The Mexico ’86: it was a white pizza with roasted garlic, mozzarella, smoked Gubbeen, chorizo, mango salsa & guacamole. Different class.) Sure look, we didn’t get awarded a McKennas’ Guides Best in Ireland 2022 plaque for nothing! Thanks to Patch, restaurant manager Dot, and all the team.

Right, are you feeling hungry yet? Get your tickets for the 2022 Happy Days Beer & Food Festival right here and we look forward to seeing you on the May bank holiday weekend!
