Battleaxe

In a Nutshell

A bright hoppy pale ale brewed with Kveik yeast.

The Full Story

Battleaxe is a hardy 5.5% Kveik pale ale. Kveik is the Norwegian word for yeast, typically a farmhouse yeast used in brewing. It’s an ancient tradition that goes back centuries and is even woven into Norwegian folklore. The Kveik beer shows off fruity aromas and flavours: pineapple, orange, grapefruit, mango. The yeast we’ve used in Battleaxe is Wicklow Hop Company’s Bjorn, a Hornindal region Kveik yeast. We’ve used Citra and Ekuanot hops in no small amounts. Citra are the go-to hop for some guaranteed bright orange, grapefruit and gooseberry, whereas Ekuanot yield tropical fruit, berry, papaya and even herb qualities like sage and eucalyptus. This moderately bitter beer has a nice full body with the addition of wheat and oats in the brew.
