Shemozzle DDH IPA
In a Nutshell
Hoppy, juicy big-hitting collab with German hophead fanatics.
The Full Story
This is a collaborative brew with our good friends Sudden Death Brewing from Lübeck, Germany.
Sudden Death are all about hazy, hoppy big-hitting beers so we leapt at the chance to do something special with these guys. Shemozzle, a 6.4% DDH IPA, is brewed with Citra and Spectrum Eclipse hop oil. The latter has an intense flavour concentration so you’re getting a massive hit of sweet mandarin, zesty citrus peel and fresh pine needles. The former, one of our go-to hops, pulls hard on the nose and taste buds with lemon, orange and subtle grapefruit.
The grain bill has loads of wheat and malted oats, giving this beer a big pillowy, chewy body to go up against the hop characteristics. We’ve also double dry hopped Shemozzle; it’ll be like an All Ireland Final for your nose with the aromas.
Why the name Shemozzle? Our German colleagues are mad into the ice hockey, as you can see from their logo and beer names. So we thought we might as well pitch a hurling versus ice hockey theme! Sudden death is a shootout play to determine the winner of a tied ice hockey game and of course, as you all know, a shemozzle is when there’s a bit of a physical altercation between two or more players during a hurling or football game. (We were tempted to bring out a much lower ABV version of this beer and call it ‘Handbags’)
